Hi! I’m Sophie. I’m a reporter and fact-checker from St. Louis, Missouri, living in Brooklyn.

In 2024-25, I was an editorial fellow at Mother Jones covering politics and social movements. These days, I’m covering climate and corporations for Grist, and writing about defense contractors for Inkstick Media.

Over the past few years, I’ve written about asylum-seekers in Brooklyn, defense contractors in upstate New York, trans kids fleeing Mississippi, political memoir as revisionist history, big money in Midwest politics, anti-war activists, pro-war galas, the secret polluting history of Kodak, and pinball in small-town Illinois, among other things.

My reporting has been recognized with Missouri Press Association and NLGJA awards.

I am also a seasoned researcher. I’ve fact-checked Pulitzer-winning literary criticism, think-tank reports, one Mafia documentary, and too many podcast episodes to count. Outlets I’ve worked with include The Nation, New York Magazine, Business Insider, New York Focus, WNYC, and The Wall Street Journal.

I received my BA in history and environmental studies from Wellesley College.

I’m open to freelance assignments—so, please do get in touch!
